Origin of BHAM

Baba Explained in his Discourses

Baba explained about Bham

Sri srisri BABA ANWARANANDA SWAMY, had explained about ‘BHAM-BHAM’ in his spiritual discourses.   Sri SriSri CHIPPAGIRI SWAMY (Sri SriSri Syed Sulthan Mohiddin Khadri), who born at Ghippagiri, near Guntakal (in RAYALASEEMA) was always uttering the words ‘BHAM-BHAM’.  These words appeared to be strange and unfamiliar in Southern India and ignorant people even ridicule those words.  However, the word “BHAM” is so pregnant with meanings.

It should be remembered that some Veda pundits had explained that “BHAM’ as Jyothi / light (Prakasam) in their discourses.

Sri Baba explained that according to various dictionaries the meaning of ‘BHAM BHAM’ as follows:-

  1. In ShabdaRathnakaram which was written by Sri BhahujanapalliSeetharamachari had explained:-

       ‘BHA’ means SKY, STAR, CLOUD.

   2. In Kannada ShabdaNigantuvu, Kannada Kasturikosa which was written by panditKavali of Darwaadh, had       explained:-

“BHA” means: STAR, NASHATRA, THARAJE SAMUHA.

                        In SuryarayendraNigantuvu, it had explained:-

                        “BHA” means: EASWARUDU, KIRANAMU, MEGHAMU.

As per Vedantham

In Northern India, the sound “VA” is pronounced as “BHA”.  Thus, RAVINDRANATH is pronounced as RABINDRANATH; VISWANATH as BISWANATH; VANAWAS as BANAWAS, VICHAR as BICHAR.  Similarly the word ‘BHAM’ is another form of the word ‘OM’, the most sacred word of Vedas which will pronounce as ‘BHOM’.  Even now the saints and people in Northern India viz., in Khasi and Himalayas, would chant“BhamBhamBolenath” repeatedly. The words BHOM-BHOM would have changed in to ‘BHAM’ ‘BHAM’ by the age/time.Hence the word ‘BHAM’ bears significant meaning in terms of philosophy.

God intoxicated:-

One immersed in the knowledge of ‘BRAHMAN’.

‘BHA’ means “BRAHMA GNANAM’

‘MA’ means MAGNANAM (dipped)/ SNANAM (bathed) cheyuvadu.

Deeply immersed in “BRAHMA GNANAM’ is called ‘BHAM’.

 ‘RAMA - - BHAM’

 When we pranounce RAMA

For ‘RA’ = Mouth opens, inside sins (papamulu) will go out;

For ‘MA’ = Mouth closes, outside sins (papamulu) will not come inside.

Likewise ‘BHAM’.  When we pranounce BHAM

For ‘BHA’ = Mouth opens, inside sins (papamulu) will go out;

For ‘AUM’ = Mouth closes, outside sins (papamulu) will not come inside.

 According to URUDU :-  In Urudu Sabdhakosam, it is explained that ‘BHAM’ means ‘together/ unite’.

As per Marifath

BHE+ HEA + MEEM = BHAM

‘BHE’ means ‘BANDHA = JEEVUDU,

‘MEEM’ means ‘MALIK= GOD’,

‘HEA’ means ‘HAI=EXIST’

i.e., BANDA MALIK HAI.  .

It gives the meaning of Shiva JeevaAikyam.

As per Vishnu Puranam
